Resources for Rescuers

This is basic information on the "do's" and "don't's" when sending your animal by air.

- Do not feed the dogs more than 6 hours before the flight. It's better for them to be hungry than to have poop all over the kennel or to throw up. Have a couple of the attachable plastic cups on the kennel door for water. Put lots of newspaper down and then put shredded newspaper on top of that. No collars or toys in the kennel.

- You will need to bring cash only to pay for your dogs. Also, please pitch in about $10 extra for gas for the driver who will be picking the dogs up. He'll have a very long day and lots of driving to do.

- Please make sure you mark your kennels with your name and/or organization and a contact phone number - mark this info in numerous places on the kennel and in permanent marker. They will be returned to San Juan via American Airlines the day after the shipment arrives. I will let you know how to get them back.

- Please place a legible label in duct tape on the outside top of the kennel. List the names of the dogs contained in the kennel.
