This is the "must have" list for my organization. Other groups have their own protocol so check with them to find out what they require.

- 1st, 2nd and 3rd DHLPP for puppies (under 1 year old) and at least 1st DHLPP for adults (over 1 year old) and bordetella vaccinations at least 1 week prior to shipping.

- rabies shot if over 4 months old

- must be free of internal and external parasites

- must have negative SNAP test (for heartworm, anaplasmosis, and erlichia) and on preventative HW meds since test- must not be aggressive, food aggressive, resource aggressive, ANY KIND of aggressive

- must be friendly - must WANT interaction with humans, not hide from them

- PREFERRED that they be spayed/neutered if of age

- must have detailed records of all medical treatments

- must have vet signed health certificate and rabies certificate (rabies tag not necessary)

I know it sounds demanding but the first time I take a dog to a shelter that comes down with distemper or parvo or kennel cough, etc..., that shelter will not take anymore animals from me in the future.
